Matt Campbell

Matt's Story

Matt has traveled the world as an athlete, US Marine, and as an outdoor adventurist. Depending upon the season, he can be found in the uplands of Montana bird hunting with his companion and retriever, Zeus; on the North Shore of Oahu savoring the surf; ice climbing with his son in Hyalite Canyon; or running the rope tow for the next generation of downhillers at Great Divide Ski, his local hill.

Matt grew up fishing the rivers and streams of Montana, some just outside his back door, but it wasn’t until later in life when he transitioned his skills and respect for the waters into an independent business as a professional guide serving fly fishing enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. His passion for fly fishing and landing a beautiful trout is matched only by the endless number of stories he will share, often sparked by a random connection that invariably exists with clients.

Matt is also an extreme artist, forging larger-than-life sculptures of his favorite subject fish from reclaimed metal, often rusted out and discarded vintage car parts. Clients become collectors. You may spot his work on display inside and outside of local lodges, homes and businesses throughout Montana. (Pictures from Tood Klassy)
